All India Institute of Local Self-Government is a pioneer Institute having a glorious background of 82 years, standing in the field of Training and Research with regard to local governance since it was established in 1926. All India Institute of Local Self Government has been a pathfinder to many contentious civic issues and has dedicated itself for the empowerment of Urban Local Bodies and Good Local Governance.
With its headquarters in Mumbai, the All India Institute of Local Self Government has its own Regional Centers Akola, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Belgaum, Bhubaneswar, Kochi, Indore, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jalgaon, Kalyan, Kolhapur, Lucknow, Nagpur, Nashik, New Delhi, New Mumbai, Panaji, Pune, Ponicherry, Rajkot, Surat, Shrirampur, Solapur, Thiruvananthapuram, Vadodara and Vishakhapatanam.
The Institute has a long working association with the Local Bodies in India and abroad is committed to Capacity building, Education, Training and Research work. It has been closely working with several international organizations, viz, UN-HABITAT, UNDP, UNICEF, US-AID, WHO, GTZ, FES, Ford Foundation, CIDA, Cities Alliance, and it has close work ties with several international networks such as CLGF (U.K), UCLG-ASPAC, ICLEI, CITYNET, LOGOTRI, CLAIR, UNESCO-IHCN etc, building the capacities of Urban Local Bodies. The Institute has also been organizing many prestigious events since its inception.
Since 1968, the Regional Centre for Urban & Environmental Studies (RCUES) at All India Institute of Local Self Government, Mumbai has undertaken urban policy research, technical advisory services, and building work capabilities of senior and middle level municipal officials, and elected members from the States of Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and UT’s of Diu, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli. The RCUES is fully supported and recognized by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India as National Training Institute.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India and UNDP have set up the `National Resource Centre on Urban Poverty’ (NRCUP). The NRCUP is anchored by Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES) of All India Institute of Local Self Government (All India Institute of Local Self Government), Mumbai.
The All India Institute of Local Self Government, Mumbai also houses the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Cell backed by the Government of Maharashtra for capacity building of municipal bodies in Maharashtra State and provide technical advisory services.
The All India Institute of Local Self Government, has been Providing technical support to Government of Maharashtra on its international project “Transformation of Mumbai into World Class City”, which is supported by the World Bank and Cities Alliances for Government of Maharashtra.
Planning and Resources for Urban Development Affairs (PRUDA) is the R & D wing of All India Institute of Local Self Government. PRUDA is involved in comprehensive urban planning and management projects with various state governments and urban local bodies to make urban areas much more livable place
All India Institute of Local Self Government has also established the International Academy of Urban Dynamics to Capacity building the urban local bodies within the SAARC region. We have recently signed an MoU with University of Salzburg to start Professional Course in Geographic Information System.
The All India Institute of Local Self Government has been active in capacity building for senior urban officials and elected members from China, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Thailand and several African countries. As a Premier institution, it aims at expanding its assistance in some of these countries in the near future to assist in bringing better governance practices & reforms.
