The All India Institute of Local Self Government in the recent years, under the presidentship of Dr. Jatin Modi, and the enterprising Director-General, Mr. Ranjit Chavan has made remarkable progress and is now no more just an Institute making available sanitary inspectors, as it was its main task for many years.

Dr. Karan Singh is felìcitated by Dr. Jatin Modi, President, AllLSG.One of the huge strides taken by the Institute in the recent years was giving the Institute truly an All India presence, Numerous states now have regional centres of the Institute which impart several courses. The Institute made a major impact when it started Chanakya Institute of Management locating it in its own premises at Andheri (W), Mumbai. The first batch of the management course was enrolled last year and which is now in the second year. It is heartening to note that the course had overwhelming response.

The second batch of management course run by the Chanakya institute was formally welcomed on 28 July, 2008 at the hands of Dr. Karan Singh, Member of Parliament, in the presence of the President of the Institute Dr. Jatin Modi and Director-General, Mr. Ranjit Chavan.

Addressing the students, the chief guest, Dr. Karan Singh emphasised the need of management skills as much in the political, social and environmental spheres as it is for business organizations. Referring to the present scenario in politics, he regreted that some groups or parties, sending their representatives to the democratic houses, have merely nuisance value. In future, this will create such a situation that it would warrant skillful management if our democracy has to survive.

Mr. R. S. Chavan, Director General, AllLSG felicitates Dr. Karan Singh. He also expressed his grief over rising terrorism and appealed that we must be ready to meet the challenges and remarked that management skills will be found to be the armour which can shield us.

He drew the attention of the trainees to the fact that 1/3rd population lives below poverty level, and it will be the major task before them to bring them to the mainstream. He suggested that management skills that the trainees imbibe during the course, are required to be applied with vision and wisdom. He further stated that benevolent schemes of Government will have to be taken to the downmost stratum of the society. Terrorism from within and without, is a challenge, which Dr. Singh stated, the young generation will have to face.

Dr. Jatin Modi, President observed that the Chanakya Institute will ensure that in this changing world, the trainees get knowledge of high level. Dr. Modi added that youths should also come forward to take new responsibilities.

Mr. Ranjit Chavan, Director-General speaking on the occasion said the young generation should not forget the past, nor be indifferent to the present, but be prepared to tread the path to make a glorious future for this country. He expressed his belief that India has a huge potential of enterprising and intellectual youths who can provide manpower of skilled management personnel needed not only here, but abroad too.
