Research & Consultancy is at the core of AIILSG and provides a major interface with the wider academic and business world. It provides new theoretical frameworks that enable reassessment and refinement of current practices and thinking. Groundbreaking interdisciplinary research by the faculty feeds of AIILSG directly into an enhanced learning environment at the Institute and indirectly to a wider audience of practicing technocrats of Built Environment.
A high degree of attention is paid to the relevance, breadth, and depth of research. While some research is internally driven, several projects are commissioned and funded by national and international organizations such as the Ford Foundation, UNO, World Bank, Planning Commission, Central and State ministries, and industrial agencies.
With the rapid development of our country, the need for creating different data bases, addressing to the resulting problems of rapid societal obligation to offer its expertise for research and consultancy in these areas, also gaining rich experience for the faculty and the institution in the process.
One of the missions of AIILSG is to become a resource centre in the service of the state and the profession by developing data-bases and reference materials and offering training programmes and continuing education courses as well as consultancy services. With this objective an R & D wing called Planning and Resources for Urban Development Affairs was established in June 2004.
PRUDA is a group of Urban Planning a Development Management professionals working with systematic planning approach to create opportunities for Sustainable urban development amidst rapid urbanization. PRUDA is involved in comprehensive urban planning a management projects with various state governments a urban local bodies to make urban areas much more livable place.
The services of the Unit reaches out the different States of Assam, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Orissa, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala.
PRUDA with its headquater at Ahmedabad has established its sub-units in Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, and Bihar.

O b j e c t i v e
-To provide consultancy services to government and other organizations for the implementation of various schemes, programs & urban reforms.
-To conduct people oriented research studies to assess and enhance public service delivery systems to the satisfaction of intended target community/groups through surveys, interviews and focused group discussions.
-To address urban issues through various research & planning activities.
-Support decentralization by working with urban local bodies on various urban planning and programs.
-Associate with different stakeholders of urban development & pursue the agenda of pro-people planning.
