The Ministry of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation (MOUE&PA), Government of India and UNDP have set up the "National Resource Centre on Urban Poverty' [NRCUP], The NRCUP is jointly anchored by Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES) of All India Institute of Local Self Government (AIILSG), Mumbai and Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA), Pune. The NRCUP is launched under GOI-UNDP project titled 'National Strategy for the Urban Poor'.

To enhance the understanding on the multiple dimensions of urban poverty and the various types of vulnerabilities that the urban poor face and to provide inputs to MOUE & PA, GOI to prepare a National Strategy and an Action Plan for poverty reduction in the country as envisaged in the GOI - UNDP project on National Strategy for the Urban Poor.
