• Inauguration of Expanded Regional Office at Nashik
  • Mr. Nitin Gadkari, former Minister, Government of Maharashtra lights the lamp in the presence of of, Dr.Jatin Modi, President, AIILSG, Mr. Ranjit Chavan, Director-General, AIILSG and Mr. Vijay Sane, Member, Governing Council, AIILSG.The All India Institute of Local Self Government had opened its Nashik Centre some years back and in a short time made progress necessitating larger accommodation. The new office of the Nashik Regional Centre at Mahatma Nagar was inaugurated on 26 December, 2007 by former Minister (Maharashtra) Mr. Nitin Gadkari in the presence of Dr. Jatin Modi, President of the A.I.I.L.S.G. and Mr. Ranjit Chavan, Director-General of the A.I.I.L.S.G. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Mr. Balasaheb Sanap, ex-Mayor, Nashik, Mr. Vinayak Pande and Mr. Ajay Doraste, Mayor and Dy. Mayor respectively of Nashik Municipal Corporation, Municipal Commissioner Mr. Vilas Thakur and other officials.

    Mr. Nitin Gadkari, former Minister, Government of Maharashtra cuts the rìbbon. The Chief Guest, Mr. Gadkari, in his inaugural address underlined the need of a long term planning stretching to a period of 15/20 years and not just 5 years, in as much as urbanization is taking place rapidly and infrastructural facilities are needed to be provided on a priority basis. Such facilities, he asserted, could be taken care of through the help of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. In the absence of proper planning, he feared there would be emergence of slums and other unauthorised construction thereby constituting hurdles in the progress of the city. He added that the Corporation should go for public-private partnership, avoiding strain on the Corporation's finance.

    He even suggested that the Corporation enter production of power. Mr. Ranjit Chavan in his welcome speech, acquainted the gathering about the various activities of the Institute and hoped that the Nashik Municpal Corporation, would prepare plans of development for the next 20 years.

He observed that Corporations elsewhere can emulate Chandigarh in the matter of developing plastic-free city. Dr. Modi said if planning is done meticulously keeping ali challenges in view, Nashik Municipal Corporation can be a model for other Corporations. In his introductory remarks, Mr. Vijay Sane, Member, Governing Council of AIILSG, said that a Deemed University could be established in Nashik if land admeasuring 2/3 acres becomes available. The Municipal Commissioner stated that such a project can be implemented jointly.

    Dy. Mayor Mr. Doraste expressed his belief that because of the courses conducted by the Institute, employment opportunities will increase in the area.

    Mr. Paresh Chitnis, Dy. Director of the Institute thanked all those present on the occasion.
