The
Growth
During
a span of over eighty years, the Institute has grown both in
terms of spheres of work services and opening of branches to cover
many states in the country. Today, the Institute has over 20
branches in all.
The ever growing activities of the Institute have made it
necessary to develop its own infrastructure. In 1962, the
Institute established its own center or research concerning urban
and environmental aspects. The Regional Centre for Urban and
Environmental Studies was established at the Institute in the year
1968, as sanctioned under circular no.F-11-3/67 LSG. Dated 30th
January 1968 by the Ministry of Family Planning, Urban
Development, Government of India. The centre covers the Western
Region of India viz. states of Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra and
Rajasthan. The centre is actively engaged in carrying out research
concerning urban, environmental and municipal aspects and provides
need based training to the Local Authorities. The Institute also
undertakes international training programmes on important urban
and environmental affairs in the world.
