Effective Implementation of SWM Rules 2016 & Prepare for Swachh Survekshan 2021 along with Sustainable Sanitation Goals

    The Project Management Unit (PMU) at Ahmednagar is preparing for Swachh Survekshan 2021 as a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The major responsibilities of the unit include preparation of solid waste management database, compliance of Open Defecation Free certification and Garbage Free City along with documentation of Service Level Progress. Field compliance to ensure the certification is also a responsibility of the PMU.

  • Description of Project: The major responsibilities of the Ahmednagar Project Management Unit include Solid Waste Management data base preparation for efficient data management and Compliance for Swachh Survekshan 2021. In addition to this the PMU also looks into compliance of MPCB Solid Waste Management issues and NGT Matter.
  • AIILSG New Delhi is providing advisory and strategic support to the Health department of Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation (AMC) in implementing and achieving of MSWM Rules 2016 and sustainable goals respectively. The action plan suggested by AIILSG will further be implemented by the AMC team.
  • The activities carried out while providing support to the AMC include:
  • 1. Monthly MIS Updation
    2. Compliance of Open Defecation free certification
    3. Compliance of Garbage Free City (GFC)
    4. Documentation of Service Level Progress (SLP), ODF and GFC
    5. Assistance and monitoring ground activities
    6. Random field visits to ensure on field compliances with respect to Swachh Survekshan
    7. Handholding of SMC Officials including Ward Officers & Field Staff.
    8. Preparation of Monthly Progress Reports.

  • Work done as part of the project in the past week. In Ahmednagar, street plays were conducted to spread awareness regarding the various themes covered under Swachh Sarvekshan and Majhi Vasundhare. These street plays were also covered by several local news channels and vernacular newspapers. Similarly, taking an example of a resident of Ahmednagar, a call for home composting was made through vernacular newspapers. An event was conducted in which the best performing workers were recognized for the work they do and were awarded certificates. In addition, meeting was conducted with the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner regarding problem of segregation and to conduct various activities. The team also attended a Review Meeting of Swachh Sarvekshan which was also covered by vernacular newspapers.
