Training program to manufacture Incense Sticks (Agarbatti) in rural areas

European Union-funded Girl power project has organized a three days residential training program in Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ranchi from May 5th to May 7th May 2022. A batch of 41 women beneficiaries of Vishnugarh block, from Hazaribagh district, participated in this Agarbatti-making program which would yield monetary profit for small-scale industry.

Mr. Raghunandan Kumar, the trainer demonstrated and trained the women about the detailed process of agarbatti making and the fragrance that must be added to these incense sticks.The training started right from the identification of quality raw materials to the manufacturing of sticks. Further, to maintain the quality of these sticks, the trainer guided the participants on how they should dry these sticks, i.e, under sunlight or shadow for how much duration before different fragrances are added to these sticks. The trainer practically demonstrated and taught the process of making incense sticks and adding fragrance to them by dipping technique. These women also learned the packaging of these sticks in different boxes and packets, So that it could be directly supplied in the market as per the demand. The training program has created awareness and skill of making a good quality incense stick and will boost the confidence of rural women to start their small-scale ventures.
