Ward Cleanliness Index for Delhi

    AIILSG has been approached by NITI Aayog to design a Ward Cleanliness Index under the initiative of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) As a prelude to encourage cities to improve Urban sanitation, Ward Cleanliness Index is proposed to the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi GNCTD under the guidance of NITI Aayog. The wards would be indexed in their respective categories, and awards would be allocated to the best performing wards and Municipal Corporations under Swachh Bharat Mission. In addition to this, Wards performing exemplary in the respective verticals shall also be awarded.
  • Description of Project:
    The Ward Cleanliness Index (WCI) provides a decision-making tool for Municipal, State, and Central authorities for improving efficiencies of wards in the context of Urban Sanitation and Cleanliness.A simple app-based mechanism to capture data onSegregation and Collection, Transportation, Processing, Digital innovations, SustainableSanitation, Pollution, and IEC Activities- which will have to be filled on a daily and monthly basis through the WCI App designed jointly by AIILSG and NITI Aayog.
    The daily data is filled by the Sanitary Inspector and the Monthly data is captured by the Assistant Sanitary Engineer of the respective wards.
    • The wards would be indexed in their respective categories-Segregation and Collection, Transportation, Processing, Digital innovations, Sustainable Sanitation, Pollution, and IEC Activities, and awards would be allocated to the best performing wards and Municipal Corporations. In addition to this, Wards performing exemplary in the respective verticals shall also be awarded.
    • This Ward Cleanliness Index is a tool for both diagnostic and curative actions for self-improvement and enhanced efficiencies of wards.
    • Total of 30 Core indicators to be marked and rest 25 are Data supportive /reference indicators
  • Activities Undertaken: -
    • Ward Cleanliness Index App test run -The designed app has been shared with all Municipal Corporation Officers for review and trial run.
    • Login ID and Password Creation-Login ID and Password have been created for the users nominated by the respective Corporation.
    • Creation of Login ID and Password for New nominated users- Login ID and Password has for the new users shall be created once the final revised nominations of the target users are received from the Corporations.
    • Sensitizing Workshop for Users of Model ward- A one-day workshop was organized to train the users on the Ward Cleanliness Index WCI app working module. A total of 40 users attended the training Programme and were trained on the data filling and submitting process.
